In 1994, the Deutsche Studentenwerk (DSW) concluded a framework agreement with Union Versicherungsdienst, which includes two insurance tariffs (Basic and Optimal) for international students older than 30 who are not legally able to take out an insurance policy.

The brand "VELA" was developed for this target group, and this brand also offers its own website. This website offers students the possibility to chat in case of queries in addition to communication by email, contact form and telephone.
