Services for families
In addition to the childcare options, the Studierendenwerk offers other services for student parents to help ease everyday study life with a child.
In some residential complexes, the Studierendenwerk offers accommodation, particularly suitable for families. Students with children are given special attention when applying for these places in a timely manner.

Many of our dining halls and cafeterias provide baby changing facilities, play areas, microwaves and high chairs for children, available for use by student parents and their children. Please refer to the pages of the individual facilities to find out what equipment is available in each case.

Children of at least one student parent receive a child ID card on application. Two possible accompanying persons are named in the child ID card.
Children up to and including six years of age with a valid child ID receive a free child portion in the refectories and cafeterias (except cafeteria Carl-Zeiss-Straße in Jena and cafeteria Audimax in Ilmenau), provided that the accompanying person is registered in the child ID and buys a meal himself/herself. The accompanying persons can be students, employees, or guests. An accompanying person can claim several free children's meals at the same time provided he or she is registered in all children's ID cards (e.g., parents with several children of their own).
The application for a child's ID card can be submitted to the information centres or, in Nordhausen, to the Office for Educational Support of the Studierendenwerk. When applying, please bring your current student ID and a copy of it as well as a certificate that identifies the child as your own (e.g. birth certificate) as proof. Student parents must have their child's ID card validated at the information centres every semester by presenting their current student certificate so that it does not lose its validity.
